Letter to Lorain Berg and Calvin R. Berg
From Steven L. Berg

Dear Dad and Richard:

As you know, there is no way that the family genealogy will ever be finished. All I can do is continue to make progress. Therefore, while working on it, I comfortably jump from task to task depending on my mood, attention span, and so forth.

I want to show you two things I am working on that will improve the records; especially concerning how they can be preserved and shared. As an example, I have printed out the current records for grandpa Berg.

As I am going through records, I am using the "Individual Facts" section of Family Tree Maker more than mom did. Where she would list something like the cost of grandpa's funeral ($349.50) in the "Personal Notes" section, I am listing it as a "Fact" and then adding the source of the information as a note.

Because I have scans of these records, after recording the information, I am then attaching the scan as a media file to the individual person's record. Although the printout of the media files I have included are not legible, they are preserved with the records in Family Tree Maker and can be easily printed in legible fashion from it.

Eventually, I will have other records-including census records-as part of the Family Tree Maker Files. These records will also continue to be available on-line.

Although no one will see this work on a regular basis, I wanted you to know how family history is being preserved so that it can more easily be passed on to future generations.

Sincerely,

Steven L. Berg

P.S. The page concerning George Berg was sent to me by Ursula and is included because I thought it would interest you.
