Dear Lillian,

I must admit I was rather shocked to hear from you. I thought you would of course, write sometime, but I didn’t think it would be quite so (?) soon. Ha!

I was glad to hear from you anyway, and if you had written to me sooner you might have gotten a Christmas present, but you will have to come and get it now. You had better hurry up, too, or may give it away. Ha!

I will try to tell you some of the things I got for Christmas, if I can remember them. It seems such a long time since then. From my school, I got money with which I bought teaspoons to match my set, (I already had 7.) a book, a handpainted plate, a box of stationery, and a handpainted scarf. All this came from the school kids. Then I got a nailfile, a workbasket, a back powderpuff, a black oilcloth dog porch pillow, 5 hdkf’s,White House Cookbook, 2 table mats, bathsalts, pretty silk scarf, a clothespin bag, a handpainted pin dish, glass cheese plate, pretty comforter (all made) a blue cracked glass perfume atomizer, and a box of candy and a very nice linen tablecloth from Carl. He wanted to know what I wanted and I told him someone for my hope chest and I guess he got it alright. Santa was pretty good to me wasn’t he?

How are you coming with your schools? Do you like it better than you dide? I like mine as well as ever. I didn’t see Evelyn when she was home, but I heard she had her fellow with her. I guess he must be a different one than she brought last year, because everyone thought he was so homely.

I guess I am still one of the great(?) army of old maids, too, and probably will be until someone rescues me from it. Ha! Ha! I am gong to teach next year, altho’ I am not sure where yet.

Theresa Douse quite often stays with the baby while Harley and Ethel go to shows or have a bridge party or go to one. I guess she has been there to meals quite a lot, too. She likes here school real well, but she doesn’t like the city anymore than I did when I was there.

Esther Dull is teaching in Lansing this year. She wouldn’t have gotten there, but for her first year teaching in the country. I suppose if I had my limited or life certificate it wouldn’t be hard for me to get in a different school. I think I am saving just as much money here as I would be saving in town, tho!

So far, it hasn’t been hard for me to get back and forth to school. I had vacation up until Tuesday of last week and then Monday afternoon Carl brought me back in the horse and buggy. He also dug paths and carried wood for me. Pretty good fellow, eh? Then last Friday night it wasn’t so bad and Mr. Lowell brough me to town in the sleighs. The roads were allright Sunday so we could use the car. My road is kept open pretty well nearly all of the year. I hope this will be the hardest snow we will have, don’t you?

Well, it is nearly time for school to call, so I must close. Write as soon as I did.

Love, Helen.
