Dear Miss Glasner,

I received your beautiful gift for which I am writing to thank you. My thanks must seem small compared to such a lovely gift which I intend to wear when I graduate.

I must tell you now about the Junior Play. The weather was not at all favorable. It was almost a blizzard both nights. The first night “we” made thirty-five dollars and the second night “we” made forty-five dollars. It was very disappointing to “us” as we expected a better result. The play ws acted fine due to the good instruction of Miss Kremer and Miss Parker. Due to some of the Juniors, “we” had a Royalty Play which “we” had to pay quite a sum of royalty to the company.

Now heres the joke.—After the debts were all payed. “We” had left from the eighty dollars just five dollars. “We” made Miss Kremer and Miss Parker a present from that.

Now we hav’ent a cent to start on, hav’ent decided what “we” are going to do.

Yes, I heard about Mrs. Shipman’s fathers death. I don’t know as you remember Wesley Newman, when you were here last year. He was one of the graduates of the Senior Class. He dies only a short time ago of appecenditis. Well, I guess everyone has their share of trials in the world.

How is the weather where you are today? Just like spring here. I am very glad that you like your school.

Again I must tahnk you for remembering me in such a thoughtful way. Please, think of me as trying to be a good girl whose chief desire in life is to scatter sunshine and happiness and trying to be a friend to everyone.

Here I quote a few lines of my own composition.

Over the past my mind is drifting
Memories of you so dear
In my heart I see your longing
For me to follow the way that is clear

Through the years I shall never forget
Your hearts’ desire for me. And always with a truthful heart. I’ll let this longing be.
To follow on o’er the Road of right
Whatever cost may be
And someday friends will not forget
What purpose I sought to see

Your loving friend and pupil

Dorothea V. Palmer
