Dear Lillian,
Last evening I thought I’d get up and mail you and early morning letter but the weather was too cold and bleak. I have to go to vote and will mail Irene’s box, take the right package to the safe deposit, and send a mail order to Sears for Patty.
The new motor for her sewing machine came yesterday. She thought Andy would install it last night. He killed a beautiful pheasant Sunday. Patty made him skin it carefully that she might have the feathers for a one hat crown and the wings on another. Then the skin feather side down they tacked it on a board and salted it. In two weeks it will be ready for use. Andy claimed it made him sick of the meat to work so long over it and he wouldn’t tasted it for dinner Monday, made Patty cook him an egg. It would make me sick to think I had killed such a beautiful bird.
Patty had dinner at “the folks” while he was hunting on Sunday. Vera & friend were there and other company so with Eva and Aunt Clista there were six old maids seated in a row around one end of the table. Dr. and Kitty were there. She took them all a piece of the pheasant yesterday. Not much left for her. She has a little piece to cream for today. Says the meat is too dry to fry.
Helen has her bloomers ready for the rubber. She made codfish croquettes for cooking lesson and brought hers home to me hot. Wayne left about 9:30 Sunday evening. They discussed “Crime and punishment” most of the evening.
I finished the washing, emptied the tubs and hung the clothes around to dry. After school Helen and I did the ironing. She popped corn for our supper. We had fried apple sandwiches for breakfast.
I have some things to sash in Lux today. Guess I’ll try putting in your green.
We had planned to paint the car. Andy said wash it twice over with gasoline then have a large rag varnished and just dry enough not to stick to wipe it with ahead of the paint brush and give it one coat of Duco and we wouldn’t know the Dodge. It will have to be warmer than it is today before I tackle such a job. I look for warmer weather the last of the week.
Helen reports remarkable improvement since student government is working here. Why don’t you tell Mr. Carey about it. Sticle went to Holland to study their system. My weakest point was always discipline. When I had seven grades, janitor work, and all else to do, I was too busy to watch a roomful every minute. Monday’s we’d usually start in pretty good but I seldom wanted company on Friday. It used to give me a sick feeling around my solar plexus. I learned me lesson – Never argue and never call names. Student gov’t is a much better plan. Lovingly – Mother.
