P.S. Edith Ackerman came to rent the floor upstairs last Sunday but it was too large. Some surprise. (maybe you better save these letters to that when I become famous we can have them published.)

Feb. 2, 1926

Dear Lillian;

Gee—It seemed goo to hear from you. I’m all bundled up in front of the fire-place in a rocking chair with the best case of tonsillitis I’ve had in ages. I’m not working now and so I thought I might answer some of my delayed correspondence.

From your letter Bill must be still on the war path for Eunice. I meet Stanley Collins on the street quite often here and he said they are awfully stricked out there now. How in the world did they get up nerve enough to kick Bill Barnes out? Beth and I went to see “Blossom Time” when it was here. My dad got the tickets for us and it was great. We fell in love with one of the chorus—Leave it to us to pick out the best looking one!!! If I don’t get to work pretty soon I’m going to start writing “Free Verse” as I hear, only people with absolutely no brains can qualify. How’s this.

    The Birds Sing,
    ” Cow’s Moo,
    And so do I
    Love You.
    “ “

Notice the comma in Bird’s & Cow’s. That’s the fun part of it. They might put in the “Echo.”

Alice Gray succumbes to the wiles of her imagination.

Brainless Idiot, recently of this College, earns a fortune writing free verse.

Will write more later. Let me know when there’s something on & & I’ll arrive when you don’t expect me. Love Alice.
