My Dear Wife & Baby –
You will excuse me for not writing oftener to you I’ll tell you it keeps us very near busy doing our duty to our company ate supper at 6 oclock last night and then went on guard duty all night did not have a thing to eat or drink till (9.30) this forenoon did you ever go out on guard if you have not I would advise you never to try it.
The boys that got hurt yesterday were in our company. They are not hurt near as bad as probably will be reported in the Papers. One man losses his first finger to the first joint like this (pic of hand) the end of it. The other losses his thumb like this (pic of hand) that is all it will probably say they were very near killed they are feeling good to day could be out of bed as well as not only for the shock. It unnerved every body in the camp they will probably go home to night or tomorrow. I am going ot shoot at target tomorrow so I’ll have an easy time to morrow just two of us go out with our rifles.
I haven’t received any word from you yet I wish you would wrte every day Jennie. Captain let two carrier pidgeons go for Lansing yesterday & day before.
Just as many drunks as ever.
I have spent 5 cents since I left Lansing two bananas & 1 pear. Hows that.
I am feeling as well as ever I won’t look like the rest of the boys when I get home. They have all got that tired look now. A few nights drunk will bring it. Good Bye FJS.
